EWA at EXPOAPA 2025 Regional Water Forum "Danube – Eastern Europe"

Bucharest, 23–25 June 2025

The European Water Association (EWA) was proud to be represented at the EXPOAPA 2025 Regional Water Forum "Danube – Eastern Europe", held from 23 to 25 June 2025 in Bucharest, Romania. This high-level regional event, organised by Asociația Română a Apei (Romanian Water Association), brought together key stakeholders from across Europe to exchange knowledge and foster collaboration in the water sector.

We extend our sincere thanks to Asociația Română a Apei for the kind invitation and the excellent organisation of this forum.

EWA Participation and Key Contributions

Arthur Guischet, representing the European Water Association, played an active role in several key moments of the event. On Monday, Arthur Guischet had the honour of delivering opening remarks, following Ilie Vlaicu, President of Asociația Română a Apei, and Roxana Minzatu, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, in charge of Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness.

On Tuesday, Arthur Guischet joined the Roundtable on Water Resilience in Eastern Europe, held in the presence of Commissioner Jessika Roswall, European Commissioner responsible for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy. The roundtable included representatives from several EWA member organisations and served as a dynamic platform to discuss regional challenges and shared strategies for water resilience.

At both occasions, Arthur Guischet reaffirmed EWA’s strong support for the development of the EU Water Academy, as proposed in the European Commission’s Water Resilience Initiative. The Academy represents a vital tool to strengthen the EU water sector by addressing key challenges such as an ageing workforce, increasing the sector’s attractiveness to young professionals, and fostering innovation and technology transfer.

EWA remains committed to engaging with European Commission colleagues and all interested stakeholders to shape this initiative and contribute to the water sector’s sustainable future.

Engaging on Finance and Sector Expertise

In addition to his policy-focused interventions, Arthur Guischet also participated in the International Workshop on Water Sector Finance, organised by the International Water Association’s Statistics & Economics Specialist Group. This session offered valuable insights into financing mechanisms and tariff models from Romania, Cyprus, Portugal and the Netherlands. It provided a space for constructive dialogue on the economic sustainability of the water sector.

Networking with EWA Members and Partners

EXPOAPA 2025 was also a welcome opportunity to connect in person with several EWA members, including Katerina Schilling, Dr. Kovács Károly PhD (oec), and Thomas Fritz. Strengthening these personal ties and sharing national experiences continues to be a core part of our work as a European network.

We would like to express a special thank you to Monica Isacu, Teodor Popa, and all our Romanian colleagues who made our participation at EXPOAPA 2025 possible.

Let’s Keep the Dialogue Going

The EWA looks forward to continuing the conversation around water resilience, sector innovation, and capacity building in Europe. If you're interested in engaging with us on the EU Water Academy or any other initiatives, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Together, we can ensure a more resilient and sustainable water future for Europe.
