Mara Pavelić and Johann Wiedner Awarded EWA Honorary Membership

On May 27th, during the EWA Council Meeting in Oslo, Mara Pavelić (Croatia) and Johann Wiedner (Austria) were awarded the prestigious Honorary Membership of the European Water Association (EWA). This distinction is granted to individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the European water sector.

Mara Pavelić (Croatia)

Mara Pavelić has been a pivotal figure in water management and environmental protection in Croatia. Since 2015, she has served as President of the Croatian Water Pollution Control Society (CWCPS) and has represented Croatia at the EWA with dedication and vision. In 2019, she was appointed to the EWA Management Committee, where she has played an essential role in shaping policy and advancing regional cooperation.

Her work focuses on enhancing water quality standards and promoting sustainable water management practices across Southeast Europe, a region facing growing challenges due to climate change and resource pressures. Her contribution also extends to international platforms, including her involvement in organizing the 4th International Conference on Waters in Sensitive and Protected Areas in 2024.

Johann Wiedner (Austria)

Johann Wiedner has been instrumental in advancing sustainable water and waste management practices in Austria. Since 2016, he has represented the Austrian Water and Waste Management Association (ÖWAV) at the EWA Council. In 2021, his expertise and long-standing dedication were recognized with his appointment to the EWA Management Committee.

Wiedner played a key role in the successful EWA-ÖWAV Joint Conference held in Vienna in October 2023, which addressed the impacts of climate change on water resources and explored adaptation strategies for the sector. His ability to foster dialogue and practical collaboration across sectors has made a lasting contribution to EWA’s mission and to water resilience efforts in Europe.

The EWA Honorary Membership recognizes individuals with exceptional dedication to the European water sector. Mara Pavelić and Johann Wiedner are among this distinguished group for their valuable contributions and long-standing support.
