Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) is organizing a specialized conference in December 2019 to address the challenges and opportunities in the Energy-Water-Environment (EWE) nexus in harsh desert climates.

Over 300 researchers, scientists, engineers and stakeholders are expected to attend the four-day event, which will be held at Qatar National Convention Centre from 2-5 December 2019.

  • To identify areas of collaboration on EWE nexus issues on a regional and international scale, and associated technology development and innovative approaches.
  • To understand the challenges and barriers, and to develop potential solutions for relevant issues in the implementation of research in the area of energy, water and environment.
  • To exchange ideas and share knowledge with experts and policymakers from around the world.
  • To bridge the gap between research and industry, and address socio-economic impacts.
  • To highlight the research capacity and capabilities relevant to Qatar and the region.

The Local Organizing Committee of IC-SEWEN’19 warmly and kindly invites you to submit extended abstracts, either for oral or poster presentations.

We welcome submissions from diverse and international contexts with and specific focus on harsh climates, and arid regions.

QEERI is partnering with Springer Nature to showcase the high quality proceedings that will be presented at the conference.

Accepted proceedings papers will be peer-reviewed and assembled in a Springer edited volume with a given DOI for each manuscript.

Selected high quality proceedings papers that are presented at the conference will be accepted for submission in a special issue on arid areas in the Springer Nature Applied Science (SNAS) journal.

Special Session:

Why do research in Qatar?

Recent studies show that many more researchers are moving to Qatar (18 percent) than out of the country (7 percent), resulting in a net researcher inflow of 11 percentage points. This suggests that Qatar is a top research destination thanks to an increasingly supportive research environment.

A special event on “Why do research in Qatar” will be organized alongside the conference.

The conference will provide multiple opportunities for networking: Opening Reception, Networking Mixer, Closing Awards Banquet, Lunches and Poster Sessions... We hope to see you this December in Doha!
