Water Technology Training Camp: Getting Ready for WorldSkills Kazan 2019

Date 24.04.2019 - 02.05.2019
Location Stuttgart, Germany

Every two years WorldSkills hosts the world championship of skills, which attracts more than 1,300 competitors from all over the world. WorldSkills gives youth the chance to compete, experience, and learn how to become an outstanding performer in their skill of choice. All participants have also the chance to win a prestigious medal for themselves and their country.
The skills are divided into 6 categories, as follows:
• Construction and building technology
• Manufacturing and engineering technology
• Creative arts and fashion
• Social and personal services
• Information and communication technology
• Transportation and logistics

For the first time, “Water Technology” will be held as an official skill in the category manufacturing and engineering technology. Whether working in water supply or wastewater treatment, the role of the Water Technician is to observe, identify, report, maintain, control and repair equipment and processes throughout the plant and the networks. For this purpose, they must have knowledge and expertise in mechanics, chemistry, biology, electrical and automation skills as well as environmental protection.

The German water industry is very progressive and its knowledge, standards and rules can serve as guidelines to projects. In addition, Germany is one of the few countries in the world that offers a three-year skilled technician education in the environmental sector since 1984.
For this reason, DWA – the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste, being an expert in the water sector, organizes in cooperation with World-
Skills Germany, FESTO and Adiro a „Water Technology“ Training Camp for experts and participants of WorldSkills Kazan 2019.
With the training camp, participants are perfectly prepared for the tasks of the new skill “Water Technology”.
The training aims to explain all relevant tasks to compete on the WorldSkills Kazan 2019 competition in the new skill „Water Technology“. All tasks and requirements which were presented during WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 will be shown and explained. The participants will learn how teachers train workers and academics in the field of water in Germany.
The participants are coached by:
• Hilmar Tetsch, Chief Expert Water Technology, Senior Wastewater Engineering Technician, City of Stuttgart
• Rüdiger Heidebrecht, Head of Department, Training and International Cooperation, DWA- German Asscociation for Water, Wasterwater and Waste
• Hubert Romer, CEO of Worldskills Germany
• Klaus Kronberger and Thomas Schwab,
Company Adiro/FESTO
